About Ashley
Hi there! I’m Ashley, the small but fierce member of our band of adventurers.   I have been described as a very quiet loud person, which is pretty fitting.  I am an animal lover, tree hugger and free spirit.  I love to read (mysteries and true crime), sing and dance, and am super competitive at board games.  I am always up for a challenge and enjoy surprising those who underestimate me.

The most rewarding job I ever had was as an Advocate for survivors of domestic and sexual violence.  I have been a practicing attorney for 6 ½ years and while I can’t turn down the chance to win an argument, I have always struggled with being stuck in a professional office job.  I am my happiest when I am traveling the world with Kevin, hanging at home with our girls, hiking through untouched wilderness, or working with my hands to renovate/build/create.

If you had told me 10 years ago where I would be today and that we would be leaving the safety and security of home to RV full time without any real clear plan, I would have said not a chance.  But I’ve learned through several unexpected detours in my life to embrace the unknown, to dance in the rain and to take the chance on dreams which seem risky or crazy because there’s a certain kind of magic in that.  And while I am slightly terrified, I am also very excited for this next chapter in our lives and for the freedom, challenges, and memories it will undoubtedly bring.

About Kevin
I’m Kevin, a self-proclaimed modern renaissance man.  I enjoy learning, mastering different skills and working with my hands.  You can often find me tinkering with my truck, building something or picking up a new hobby.  I enjoy traveling so much because it fulfills my ingrained desire to try new things.  I love exploring different places and challenging myself to unique experiences like trekking to Machu Picchu, cage diving with great white sharks in South Africa or hiking up a glacier in New Zealand.

Another passion of mine is volleyball.  Whether it is playing, training, competing, learning, strategizing or coaching, volleyball has been a constant in my life.  I played competitively in college and continue to play both indoor and beach volleyball as often as I can.  That is one thing that I am definitely going to miss when we are on the road.  In addition to playing, I enjoy coaching and would have loved to make coaching my career.  Unfortunately, most of the coaching positions are part time which just doesn’t pay the bills.  So, I changed my focus towards IT.  My last position was in IT Project Management and while I enjoyed the challenges and diversity that the position entailed, I have known for quite some time that a cubicle life is not for me.

I have discovered more about myself through tackling a renovation with Ash or hiking a difficult mountain than I have in my career or following the traditional path.  Of course it’s easier to hire somebody to do the work or to follow the crowd, but anybody can do that.  For me, I find it more rewarding to put in the work, choose the harder route and to prove that I can do it on my own.

About Piper
Piper is an 8-year-old Siamese snowshoe mix who we adopted when she was a tiny kitten.  She is beautiful and quite aware of that.  Piper is the leader of our pack and has no qualms about keeping her sisters in line.  She enjoys laying in the windows and surveying her kingdom, sleeping, cuddling, wrestling with the dogs and playing with what we can only guess are ghosts.

About Hayley
Hayley is a 6-year-old Australian cattle dog mix who we rescued when she was about 1.  She is a little timid and nervous around new people and animals but is surprisingly confident and happy when leading us on a hike or running free outside.  Hayley loves attention, taking walks, being outdoors and sunbathing.  She is truly a Mama’s girl and is very protective of Ashley and her sisters.

About Sophie
Sophie is the puppy, the newest member of the crew and is for sure the clown.  She is a 1-year-old Great Pyrenese/Husky/Golden mix.  Sophie is a goofy mushball, who does not understand how big she is or why not everyone and every animal she meets doesn’t love her and want to play for hours.  She is incredibly mischievous and is always making us laugh.

 About Wanda
Wanda is our “new to us” 2007 Winnebago Vista Class A Motorhome, an essential part of this expedition.  We named her Wanda as a nod to our own Wanderlust- our strong desire to wander and travel the world.   She is 30 feet long with one slide out and has plenty of life left in her with only 27k miles.  We purchased her from a couple in Pennsylvania, who recently came home from their own journey across the US.  Wanda is definitely in need of some TLC to make her home and road worthy, which is exactly what we were looking for.  One thing about us, we will always choose the fixer upper, (sticks and bricks or on wheels) so that we can renovate and leave our mark on it. We love the process of creating a home that is uniquely “us” and seeing our hard work reflected in every nook and cranny.  Follow Wanda’s transformation on our Instagram @sidetrackedbyadventure and let us know what you think!

See you on the road
